Travelling to Val Thorens

The best travel options are to fly to either Geneva (GVA), Lyon (LYS), Grenoble (GNB) or Chambery (CMF) airport, then take a private or shared transfer to Val Thorens. By road, the transfer to Val Thorens takes around 2hrs 30mins from Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble or Chambery. However, when planning your trip, bear in mind the availability of flights and transfers to Geneva is far better. As the highest resort in the famed Three Valleys ski area, the journey is well worth it! Alternatively there is a direct Eurostar train service from London and Ashford to Moutiers every weekend during the ski season. From Moutiers it’s just 50mins journey to Val Thorens, and you can take your skis or snowboard onboard the train for free.

About Val Thorens

Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe with its town centre based at 2300 metres. It is also part of the famous Three Valleys ski area with access to over 600 kilometres of pistes for winter sports enthusiasts. Val Thorens was transformed from a small mountain village into a purpose built, ski in ski out, ski resort in the 1960s. Thanks to the altitude of Val Thorens and the Péclet glacier, great snow is pretty much guaranteed all season. For the best views head up to the top of the Cime de Caron cable car. From the viewing platform at 3200 metres you can see over 1000 peaks in 3 countries. It is truly breath taking. Val Thorens attracts a real international crowd, with many tourists from Denmark, Britain, Sweden, Germany, Belgium and many others. The resort offers a great choice of accommodation from budget apartments to 4 star hotels. The same goes for restaurants, from kebab shops to fine dining you can find anything you fancy. If you like to party then you can start it right on the piste. The famous Folie Douce, just at the top of the Plein Sud chair lift has DJs playing tunes and champagne on tap every afternoon. Your next stop for après ski should be Café Snesko with live music and if you are still going into the early hours then check out Malaysia – Val Thorens’ night club.
