About Flaine

Flaine is a purpose-built resort that didn’t exist until the 1960s, the original part is built in the traditional Bauhaus style of the era. It might not be everyone’s favourite but there is a lot more to Flaine than its controversial architecture. In recent years Flaine has expanded and now there are two new ‘mini-resorts’: the Hameau de Flaine with lots of chalets and Montsoleil that was developed by the company, Intrawest. Flaine is part of the Grand Massif ski area and it has the second best snow record in France. Other villages that make up the Grand Massif are Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt. The Grand Massif comprises 267 kilometres of pistes with a really varied terrain that will keep skiers and boarders of all ability levels happy. Flaine is a great place for beginners as it has a wide and gentle nursery slope at resort level and easy, wide blues for when you get a bit more experienced. Intermediates will find Flaine great as well as there is a wide choice of pistes and how much you want to push yourself is entirely your choice. There are also 12 black pistes and many off-piste opportunities for experts. If the Gers bowl is open then you are in luck. The powder skiing here is fantastic along the Combe de Gers piste! The nice wide pistes should also keep snowboarders happy, if you are one for a few jumps then head to the Jam Park in the Aujon area. Flaine is popular with British families which means that your little ones should have someone to chat to in ski school. The resort of Flaine is investing into upgrading the old chair lifts and modernising the ski area. The après-ski scene is a bit more limited in Flaine then in bigger resorts but it has enough to keep you entertained after a day on the slopes. Try the White Pub or The Flying Dutchman. Flaine is a great choice for short breaks as well as it is in easy reach from Geneva airport. If you book a private transfer from Geneva airport to Flaine then you can expect to be at your accommodation, ready to ski just an hour and a bit after you left the airport.   Distance of Transfer from Geneva Airport to Flaine: 88 kmGeneva Airport to Flaine Transfer Time: App. 1 hr 15 mins Distance of Transfer from Grenoble Airport to Flaine: 213kmGrenoble Airport to Flaine Transfer Time: 2hrs 30mins approx Distance of Transfer from Chambery Airport to Flaine: 133kmChambery Airport to Flaine Transfer Time: 1hr 40mins approx Distance of Transfer from Lyon Airport to Flaine: 210kmLyon Airport to Flaine Transfer Time: 2hrs 10mins approx
