About Alpe D'Huez
Alpe d’Huez lies at an altitude of 1869 metres and it is the biggest resort in the Grandes Rousses Massif. The original village of Huez has seen the resort grow in every direction over the years but it still maintains an Alpine charm with family-run restaurants and old chalets. Now it takes a short cable car ride to get from from Huez to the ski area. Alpe d’Huez is also known as ‘L’Ille au Soleil’ (Island of the Sun) thanks to its south west facing location and sunny weather. The ski domain consists of 249 kilometres of runs and it offers something to all ability levels.
You should not miss the Sarennes piste which is the longest run in Europe being 16 kilometres! Pic Blanc at 3330 metres is the highest point of the ski area and offers a fabulous view of the surrounding peaks. Alpe d’Huez is also popular with the Tour de France and it also has a unique equestrian centre welcoming race horses in the summer. The high altitude improves the horses’ performance.
